Fishing Vessel Regulations
The Engineering Wing is responsible for overseeing the implementation, modernization, and safety regulation of fishing vessels across India.
Recent efforts include:
- Capacity building initiatives for enforcement of fishing vessel safety regulations, undertaken in collaboration with state maritime authorities and fisheries departments.
- Policy proposals to revise the exemption threshold for fishing vessels under the Merchant Shipping Act, seeking to raise the length criterion from 20 metres to 24 metres, in line with evolving operational and regulatory needs.
