National Maritime Games
The National Maritime Games, launched by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) in April 2025, is a landmark event uniting India’s maritime sector through sports. Designed to foster teamwork, innovation, and camaraderie, the Games celebrate the vital role of maritime professionals in nation-building.
In the annals of India’s maritime history, the conception and successful execution of the National Maritime Games – 2025 stands as a watershed moment. Hitherto, despite India's expansive coastline, thriving maritime trade, and rich seafaring tradition, no structured national-level sporting platform existed to bring together the entire maritime fraternity under one banner of athleticism, camaraderie, and unity. It is with great pride and conviction that we record that, for the very first time, the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has taken the initiative to conceptualize and execute a grand and inclusive maritime sporting event, setting a pioneering precedent for the future.
The logo for the National Maritime Games was unveiled by the Honorable Union Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways on January 22, 2025.
The Maritime Games 2025 was a significant event featuring 14 sports, executed over 12 days across four venues. Over 60 companies and 1,750 participants from Chennai, Cochin, Dehradun, Gujarat, and Maharashtra participated. The event, organized by K2K Director Mrs. Kiran Phadnis and her team, was a resounding success, demonstrating excellent coordination and networking.
The games commenced with an opening ceremony on March 23, graced by Dr. P.T. Usha as the Chief Guest, alongside senior industry dignitaries.

Following the overwhelming success of the pilot edition, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) is set to institutionalize the National Maritime Games as a biennial sporting extravaganza, reinforcing its commitment to a healthier, more connected maritime community.
At the heart of this vision lies the goal to build a Zonal-to-National ecosystem—uniting maritime professionals through physical fitness, sportsmanship, and collective pride, while supporting national wellness and sports policies.
