The National Port and Ship Security Conference 2025 brought together India's top maritime minds, uniting key policymakers, port authorities, intelligence agencies, and maritime security professionals to deliberate on strategies for strengthening India's coastal and port security framework.
Senior dignitaries including Shri T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, and Dr. Rajendra Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Border Management), Ministry of Home Affairs, addressed the gathering, highlighting the urgent need for seamless inter-agency collaboration in today's evolving threat landscape.
Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, set the tone for the day, underscoring that true security goes beyond the absence of threat—it lies in consistent preparedness, strategic foresight, and integration of modern technology with maritime law. His message reflected a vision of holistic and coordinated security efforts that align with global standards while addressing India's unique coastal challenges.
The conference featured technical sessions and panel discussions on:
- Port facility security assessments
- Implementation of MS-ISPS Rules and coastal synergy
- Cybersecurity in shipping
- Incident response frameworks
- Role of RSOs and best practices from major ports
From CISF, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Customs, and Intelligence Bureau to private stakeholders and RSOs, the exchange of insights was robust and actionable.
Collective recommendations emphasized capacity building, threat simulation exercises, updated SOPs, increased intelligence sharing, and integration of AI in maritime surveillance.
