From the Chief Surveyor's Desk
India is at a defining moment in its maritime journey. As we work toward the goals set under Maritime India Vision 2047 and the IMO’s net-zero emissions strategy, the Engineering Wing is proactively driving regulatory and operational reforms that support a just and inclusive transition to green shipping. Our efforts are focused on promoting the adoption of alternative fuels, encouraging energy-efficient ship design, and supporting innovative technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the maritime value chain.
In alignment with global climate goals, we are enhancing our technical frameworks to facilitate decarbonisation, including support for wind-assisted propulsion, battery hybrid systems, and the use of biofuels and methanol. India's proactive participation in the IMO Green Voyage 2050 and similar capacity-building programmes underscores our long-term commitment to sustainable shipping.
Simultaneously, our Port State Control regime has evolved into a more risk-based, technology-driven compliance mechanism. We continue to ensure rigorous enforcement of safety and environmental standards for both Indian and foreign-flagged vessels calling at our ports.

The consistent performance of India under regional MoUs and our qualification for the USCG QUALSHIP 21 Programme reflect the credibility of our inspection and compliance systems.
Together, let us chart a resilient, green, and future-ready path for India’s shipping sector.
