Assembly

The IMO Assembly is the highest governing body of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Comprising all Member States, it convenes once every two years and serves as the principal forum for reviewing and shaping the strategic direction of the Organization. Its key responsibilities include approving the biennial work programme and budget, determining the financial arrangements of the IMO, and electing Members to the IMO Council.

Held biennially, the IMO Assembly plays a pivotal role in addressing global maritime challenges and setting international regulatory frameworks. It offers a platform for Member States to engage in policy discussions, adopt resolutions, and advance collaborative initiatives that promote maritime safety, environmental protection, and efficient shipping practices.

India, as a committed and active IMO Member State, consistently participates in the Assembly with a focus on championing equitable maritime regulation, capacity-building for developing nations, and the transition towards a low-carbon maritime future. India's interventions at the Assembly reflect its long-standing maritime tradition, its aspirations for inclusive global maritime governance, and its support for sustainable development goals.

India also plays a proactive role in tabling and supporting key resolutions, engaging in technical dialogue, and seeking election to the IMO Council to further its commitment to strengthening multilateral maritime cooperation. Tracking India's contributions—resolutions proposed, statements delivered, and election milestones—offers insight into its growing leadership within the global maritime community.
