Legal Committee
The Legal Committee (LEG) handles all legal issues falling within the IMO’s mandate. Its responsibilities include matters of liability and compensation arising from ship operations, such as damage, pollution, passenger claims, and wreck removal. The Committee also considers seafarer-related issues, including fair treatment, as well as unlawful acts at sea that impact the safety of navigation.
The Legal Committee held its 112th session from 24 to 28 March 2025 at IMO Headquarters in London, chaired by Mr. Diego Ramirez (Marshall Islands), with Vice-Chair Ms. Lydia Markari-Kyriacou (Cyprus). Key outcomes of the session are summarized below.
