Maritime Safety Committee (MSC)

The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) is responsible for all issues related to maritime safety and security within the scope of the IMO, covering both passenger vessels and all types of cargo ships. Its work includes the development and amendment of the SOLAS Convention and associated codes, such as those addressing dangerous goods, life-saving appliances, and fire safety systems. The MSC also addresses human element matters, including revisions to the STCW Convention on the training and certification of seafarers. Its current agenda spans a broad range of topics, including goal-based standards, autonomous ships, piracy and armed robbery at sea, cyber security, and e-navigation.

The Maritime Safety Committee met for its 110th session at IMO Headquarters in London (in-person with hybrid participation) from 18-27 June 2025. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Mayte Medina of the United States, supported by Vice-Chair, Capt. Theofilos Mozas of Greece.
